Gallery Notes
Since my first visit to Gigha in 2004 to stay with my mother in law to be, Vie Tulloch, the Isle of Gigha has become one of my favourite places. Gigha is some 7 miles long and 1 mile wide and despite not being a large island, there are many places to explore. The waters are sparkling, the beaches pristine and the views in all directions are stunning and not only all that, everyone I have met has been so friendly and welcoming that it is a pleasure to visit.
Over the past few years, much of my photography has been inspired by Gigha. Since my first encounter with Vie and a wander around Achamore Gardens, my love of birds, flowers and trees has grown enormously. Vie herself is an accomplished artist and highly specialised wood carver. Having carved many beautiful works of Otters and Birds, her controversial works in the 1970's, which reflected and highlighted how she felt about polution and the future for all of nature, was so ahead of its time that much of her foresight was, in the main, not appreciated. Many people throughout the world have commissioned her wonderful carvings and you can see one of these behind the reception desk in the Isle of Gigha Hotel.
Gigha has also been the place that has given me the confidence that people enjoy my photographs. Henri, who owns and runs the Gigha Gallery has been selling my cards and prints for over a year now and I am very encouraged by the comments I have received and the cards and prints I have sold. I will be having an exhibition in the gallery in September 2010, please watch this space for dates.
